ENDOCRINE CONDITIONS

What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is the study of medicine which relates to the diseases of the endocrine system, especially abnormalities in the production of chemicals known as hormones.  There are many hormones produced by multiple different glands. The commonly known glands include the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals and pancreas, as well as the testes and ovaries. There are many less well-known endocrine organs including the stomach and bone.  The hormones produced by the various glands are sent into the blood stream to affect various tissues throughout the body. This leads to a wide range of effects on physiology and metabolism.  The actions on the body include effects on metabolic rate, blood sugar control, weight management, growth, reproduction, and sexual development.
